Steepletop Named Literary Landmark!

The home of famed poet Edna St. Vincent Millay became a literary landmark this Sunday, perfect timing as it coincides with the centennial celebration of the Pulitzer Prize. Millay called her beautiful estate in the hills of Austerlitz, New York, home for 25 years before her death in 1950. She was the first woman to win a Pulitzer for her poetry in 1923.
Millay’s home can be viewed, toured, and at times is a venue for special events.Check the schedule out on line. Her books can be purchased at the ‘shop’, on the premises, where her beautiful antiques and artifacts can also be seen.
I just finished reading one of the biographies of Millay’s life that I purchased when I visited the estate this summer. She was a most interesting character, her incredible talent and beauty combined to make for a powerful force of nature! I can’t help but wonder what she would think of her precious homestead now being a literary landmark for all the world to see!?
