It’s amazing to watch the transformation of this once unknown area, Columbia County, NY. A small County, just 2+ hours away from New York City and Boston, and, neatly tucked between the Catskills and the Berkshires, it has been discovered! And the transformation is palpable. it has always been a well known ‘secret’ to ‘those in the know’, who sought a place of natural, expansive beauty in their quest to escape the bustle of the Big City. But, now it is also a place to find world-class art, music, theater, antiquing and fine dining. Some are calling Hudson ‘the new Brooklyn’. Others have called it ‘the Un-Hamptons’, a monocle long held, even way before the incredible evolution (revolution!) of culture and entertainment took hold. Even some of those Hampton folks are giving up the beach for the mountains. Maybe they’re tired of the crowds and noise, the very things they thought they were getting away from! Also, this, unlike the Hamptons, is a 4-season place, not just a 3-month over-priced attraction. Columbia County is ‘a way of life’, and many like it so much, they now split their time evenly, between  here, and the City . The internet has opened that possibility to a lot of people, and the quality of life for those people has improved exponentially!   Now, in keeping up with the times, the Columbia County Tourism Department has developed a free app listing attractions, festivals, points of interest, places to eat, hunt for aniques and places to stay. It also lists addresses, phone numbers and websites and offers driving directions. As I said, how things have changed!
