Main Street in Chatham has so many charming shops and restaurants plus the Historic Crandell Movie Theater! We’ll take a tour of the street and peek into some of the shops, like the new cheese shop, the book store, the linen shop, the wine shop, the brewery and the gluten-free bakery at the circle, Ralph’s Pretty Good Cafe, and the Blue Plate restaurant, just to name a few!

We’ll ride the scenic route 66 to Old Chatham, stopping along the way at PS21, the wonderful performance venue created by Judy Grunberg, and soon to be expanded with a permanent new building!

Once we arrive in Old Chatham, we’ll take in the glorious rolling hills, large expansive and open land that stretches for miles until we reach Shaker Museum Road, former home of the Shaker Museum, and current home to the Old Chatham Sheepherding Farm, where one of the country’s largest herd of sheep can be seen, and where they make and sell award-winning camembert and other delectable cheeses. There is an ‘honor-system’ fridge open to the public to purchase those delectables any time!

Enroute you will see the Bird Sanctuary, the Alpaca Farm, the Quaker Meeting House, and Jackson’s Pub. You will also come to the center of ‘Town’ to find a charming historic building that is now the Old Chatham Country Store. The two men who created this renovated shop and restaurant have done a lovely job. It’s just too bad their personalities are not very friendly or welcoming. Be prepared to be met with scowls and glares if you dare to go in. We are waiting for new owners better suited to the job before we venture back in!

The highlight of Old Chatham is The Old Chatham Hunt Club, where you can ride the glorious trails of the countryside, or just walk with the hounds. No animals are endangered in the hunt. It’s all for the beauty of the ride, the camaraderie and the faux hunt of the fox.

This is just the beginning, stay tuned for more……
